Mufasa backpackers is run by experienced guides that has been in the tourism industry now for the last 14 years. We have en suite rooms, doubles, twins and dorms plus twin safari tents and a camp site. Wireless internet a projector for the world cub bar swimming pool and lots of parking. We run from here daily Kruger park tours, weekly departures to Mozambique and tours to Malawi through the transfrontier park and Mozambique. There is 24 hour security, 3 dogs and an electric fence surrounding the property that is connected to a security company. We are situated just of the N12 on the eastern side of Johannesburg in a suburb called Benoni, 20 min from the airport 10 min to the shops and on the main route to Kruger park and Mozambique, no traffic. In the immediate surroundings are the Ebotse golf estate, the Sithabile Orphanage, Spar, banks and a post office. If you drive it will take you 10 min to Lakeside mall 15 min to East Rand Mall and about 30 min to the city center. Lots of horses and riding schools. There is also a dive school that is 18 meters deep for training and advance courses.
From here there is daily Soweto tours at R350 per person, Johannesburg tours plus tours to the apartheids museum and a variety of other attractions that can be done in a day. Kruger park tours leaves on a daily basis, or on a Monday and Thursday for specific tours.
Every Friday there is a departure to Mozambique for four days diving and ocean Safaris.

Recently we have added a campsite and three more twin safari tents with beds and electricity, we have a lodge in St Lucia and a houseboat on Lake Malawi.
We mainly concentrate on safety and security, service and advise, good clean accommodation at a reasonable price.
This is an established backpackers with lot of overland trucks and guides staying here, we are not a 5 star hotel but we do give you 5 star service.

Day 2
After a relaxed breakfast depart directly to Liwonde National Park where you will board the MV Mangunda your houseboat for the next 2 nights.
This afternoon you will cruise through the lagoons and channels looking for game.
The MV Mangunda is a three deck 60 foot modern cruiser with all amenities on board.

Liwonde lies at the southern end of Lake Malawi along the Upper Shire River (pronounced Shirree), and borders Lake Malombe. As such it encompasses riverine swamps, deciduous woodland, open grassland and even mopane woodland on the higher stretches
Game is abundant with a healthy population of elephants, hippos and crocodiles, who are best viewed from a boat on the Shire River. Waterbuck wade in lagoons and marshes, while the open savannah and hills of the interior attract antelopes such the elegant sable, impala and bushbuck. Rhinoceros were introduced from South Africa and although doing well, are often hard to find. Predators include lion, leopard, serval, and jackal.
A keen birder once recorded 266 different bird species during a two-night stay, so the area deserves its reputation as being an exceptional birding spot. Rarities include Pels fishing owls, palm nut vultures, ospreys, and Lillian’s lovebirds.

A full day spent on board the houseboat cruising the river looking for game.

The morning spent cruising the Shire River. At around 10h00 you will disembark and road transfer to Monkey Bay for your next stop at Norman Carr Cottage.

Snorkeling - There are over 600 species of fish in the lake with new species being discovered all the time. The fish life is abundant which makes snorkeling very popular. Our boat M.V. Bonnie Alfie goes out daily to various dive sites. One can enjoy a spectacular show from the fish eagles on these trips. In the evenings the boat goes out for a sundowner cruise. Relax on a pool noodle in the lake for sundowners.
Bird Watching - The bird life is varied and plentiful. Bird watching can be done in Baobab lane, there are also trails into secluded areas around the lodge, or just sit in the garden and they will come to you.
Monkey Bay visits - Another favorite is a tour of the Monkey Bay Harbor. A simple tour of the harbor may be sufficient for you but if you wish, boat trips can also be organized from here.
Club Makokola Golf - There is a 9 hole mashie course about 20km from our guest lodge. One can hire golf equipment from the pro shop if need be.
Water Sports - We offer our guests water skiing, windsurfing, and paddling at no extra charge
Boat Trips - Boat trips to various islands can be arranged as well as gentle cruises to nowhere. Sun downer cruises are also very popular to end a perfect day
